On Utility-based Selection of Architecture-Modeling Concepts

In the position paper “On Utility-based Selection of Architecture-Modeling Concepts” Proper, Verrijn-Stuart and Hoppenbrouwers are concerned with the principles underlying the utility of modeling concepts, in particular in the context of architecture modeling.

They discuss these issues from three angles: modeling, utility and communication.

In this paper they also present an approach on utility-based concept selection. The aim of this paper is not to provide `yet another framework of viewpoints', but rather to lay a foundation to be able to reason about such frameworks at a meta-level.

This fundamental approach enables architects to reason about the many frameworks of viewpoints that are already available.
